About us
Small Team, Big Standards
We believe every small business deserves the same quality of web work that enterprise companies get — without the overhead, the agency markup, or the template shortcuts.
Our story
Why we started Deep Sea Fauna
Deep Sea Fauna started after a frustrating pattern: watching small business owners pay good money for websites that failed them in ways they didn't know to look for — sites that loaded slowly, failed contrast checks, couldn't be navigated by keyboard, and sat on page 3 of Google because no one had done the technical groundwork.
The hardest part wasn't that the sites were bad. It was that the owners had no way to know they were bad. They'd been told the site was "live and looking great" — which was sometimes even true visually. But under the hood, the code was a mess of plugin conflicts, inaccessible markup, and zero structured data.
We exist to fix that gap. Not by building louder or flashier — but by building better. Hand-coded, semantically correct, accessible from day one, and measured against real performance and ranking data.
How we work
Our philosophy — build it right the first time
Accessibility isn't a feature you add at the end. It's a quality of the underlying code. If your HTML is semantic, your colour contrast ratios are correct, and your interactive components manage focus properly — your site is accessible. If it isn't, no overlay widget will fix it.
The same is true for performance and SEO. A site that's fast because it was built lean is fundamentally different from a site where plugins are fighting each other. We prefer the former.
Our process is direct: we assess what you have, tell you what's wrong with it, fix it properly, and show you the difference in data. No vague promises, no vanity metrics, no 40-page decks that say nothing actionable.
Accessibility-first
We build to WCAG 2.1 AA on every project. Not as an add-on — as a baseline requirement.
No templates
Every project starts with a blank file. Your code is written for your business, not adapted from someone else's.
